  21. Conferred “Padma Vibhushan”, the second highest civilian award, for his services in the field of science and engineering in May 2008 by the President of India

  23. IPCC under his Chairmanship along with former Vice President Al Gore have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2007
  24. Awarded “NDTV Global Indian Award for the year 2007”. The award, considered the biggest media honour in India, was given in recognition of his work in Environment Science

Awarded the “Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Award” – 2006 for his contributions and achievements in the development of Science and Technology in India – specifically in energy, environment, and technology, at the 93rd Indian Science Congress. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh presented the award at the inaugural session of the Congress in Hyderabad on January 3, 2006
